DreamQuest Software Announces Details for World's First Wireless Card Game Tournament
Participants challenge each other via wireless PDAs and cell phones; vie for Nokia Communicator grand prize
Boulder, CO--DreamQuest Software today announces details for the world's first-ever wireless card game tournament. To be held on Saturday, November 16, 2002 at 4 p.m. PST in DreamQuest Software's free Internet lobby, entrants will compete on cell phones or PDA handhelds equipped with wireless access to the Internet. Competitors will challenge each other for prizes donated from Nokia, Handango and others. The Grand Prize winner will receive a Nokia 9290 Communicator as featured in this summer's blockbuster movie, Minority Report.
"As DreamQuest continues to be very excited about the future of wireless gaming, we have planned this event to demonstrate that card games don't have to be limited to just your desktop PC," said Christopher Williamson, DreamQuest Software's president and CEO. "We're striving to offer a fun and exciting evening complete with lively competition from players all over the world!" Entrants will choose to play either DreamQuest Software's award-winning Championship Spades or Championship Hearts, two of the first truly cross-platform wireless games in the industry. These card games are highly regarded for the strength of their design, the challenge of their game-play, the enjoyment players get from playing on a multitude of platforms, even playing and chatting online in their free Internet lobby.
The future of wireless gaming is very promising to developers of wireless/interactive games such as DreamQuest Software's "Championship" card games. Currently, there are over 90 million wireless subscribers in the U.S. and the global market for wireless Internet devices is predicted to grow by 630 percent by 2005. More than one-third (37 percent) of Americans who own consoles or computers report that they also play games on mobile devices like handheld systems, PDAs, and cell phones. Further, mobile gaming is already a hit in Asia, bringing in an estimated $827 million in revenues in 2001.
